Ready For Prime Time? Not!
You know your karma has changed for the better when you start off the New Year with a fantastic opportunity. This is exactly what happened to us at Wood Duck Farm this past week. Yep, it all came about when last Saturday this lady comes by our Farmers Mkt.. booth and told me that a friend had referred her to try some of our micro greens. Come this past Monday around 10 a.m., I receive a phone call from this same lady. Turns out she is Laura Whitley with ABC Channel 13 Houston and curious if she can come out to the farm with the prospect of doing a segment on a local farm. Although a tad reluctant, as I knew our farm was a long ways from being a "Martha Stewart Kodak moment", I said ..."well heeeck yeah!" (You may recall this past Monday was not the best day weather wise, 39F and raining.) Laura said that she and crew would be at our farm by 11:30. This meant that we at the farmneeded to "jump through hoops" to get at least a few areas presentable for our TV debut. Upon a brief tour, Laura and crew spent about two hours taking different film clips of various farm activities. Albeit a constant icy rain, it turns out we all remained fairly dry under the hoop houses and stayed in good spirits with some hot Coco and coffee. In case you are interesting in seeing our farm television debut, you can visit our website at www.woodduckfarm.com and look for the Channel 13 ABC link. FYI, usually the video begins with an ad of some sort, so be patient and don't laugh out loud at my unrehearsed comments.

Other Farm Stuff This Week
Fortunately, we were able to complete our normal weekly field plantings of spring mix ingredients of various lettuces, mizuna, arugula, hans tai, tatsoi etc before the rains hit us on Monday. We also were able to finalize the deal on land that we are leasing for the extra tillable ground needed for some of the spring crops. In between all of the other stuff, we started sowing plug trays for tomatoes, peppers, cauliflower, broccoli etc. Soil samples are due to be sent off next week. Not sure, but we're exploring the prospect of planting some strawberry plugs in the next few weeks with the hope of having them in the CSA boxes come about late April or early May.
