This Past Week

Most of Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were spent transplanting our remaining tomatoes as well as a large portion of the zucchini, squash and sweet pepper seedlings. Wednesday afternoon the daily thunderstorms began and by late Friday we accumulated another 3 plus inches here at the farm. In light of soggy plants and a tornado reportedly touching down about 3 miles south of here, the transplants seem to be okay for the moment.

Field Update

Although few and far between, some of the tomato seedlings that we planted last week have already turned a few of their blooms into fruit. The broccoli, napa cabbage and cauliflower could definitely use a “dry out.” While I was able to find some “signs of potatoes life” probing just below the soil surface, they still have not surfaced yet. Many of the salad greens are “taking a beating” with the consistent wet weather. Strawberries continue to look okay, but no red fruit yet.

When Do We Begin Etc?

As mentioned previously, we are targeting the April 15th-22nd timeframe, as being our first “CSA delivery.” The plants will be the determining factor. Stay tuned for an email regarding your selecting “your desired PU location” subject..

At the Bayou City Farmers Market this Saturday, March 21st, we will have the following:

  • Baby Salad Mix
  • Micro Arugula
  • Micro Cilantro
  • Micro Green Blend
  • Smoked Pork Tenderloin
  • Snow Pea Shoots
  • Whole Smoked Chickens
  • Pulled Pork
  • No Mayo Chicken Salad

I am taking smoked turkey orders for pickup the Saturday of Easter weekend. These turkeys are brined, stuffed with apples & rosemary, and then sent to our smoke house where they are hot smoked with our native red oak. Reasonably priced at $3.25 per pound and average 12-16#s. Contact me if you are interested.

Until next time,
