Spring 2010 CSA
Wood Duck Farm
June 6th, 2010
Last week the farm really took a pounding with rain. While a lot of Texas farms and ranchers rejoiced in the rain, here at the farm we received a little too much at one time. One day we accumulated about 3/4″ in our rain gauge and a few days later another 4.″ What resulted was beaten down arugula and lettuces that was too soggy to harvest and now are rotting in their beds.
Oh well enough of our crying, a lot of the crops welcomed the rain. Our tomatoes are looking good (could take a breather from the rain though) and should continue to produce for a while now. Historically speaking the July 4th weekend is peek tomato production for us. We still have potatoes in the ground that have not yet been harvested, so we are sure to have more of them. Not sure of the count, but the cantaloupe appears to be growing well. The first crop of squash is now almost too old to produce good quality produce, so will be tilled under next week. But not to worry we have a second crop coming of your summertime favorite (LOL.) No real sure why our zucchini has not produced much. Cucumbers are prolific for the moment. Egg plant, bell peppers, watermelon and more tomatoes transplanted last week.
We will send out a CSA pick up reminder later this week.
Enjoy your holiday,
