Spring 2010 CSA

Wood Duck Farm

July 5th, 2010

We received about 4″ of rain here at the farm last Friday evening over a six-hour time frame, which is a lot for our flat farm land. That being said, it appears as though most of our crops came through okay.  In the aftermath of a large amount of rainfall, one would normally expect a lot of cracking in the tomatoes and cantaloupe, but so far so good.

More Insight Sought From You?

Via a short questionnaire a few weeks ago, many of you provided us feedback on a broad array of topics about our CSA.  Your input was very valuable to us and, as with any business, we need to be good listeners and react accordingly to your ideas and advice.  This having been said, the "one shoe fits all" concept is what we have been practicing over the past year or so, but your comments suggest that we might wish to incorporate having more options available with our CSA program. So looking to receive more insight from you, we'll soon be sending out another brief survey that will focus specifically on what, where and how we can implement such options and related topics.

Additional Pick Up Locations Sought?

The feedback from our recent survey found that some of you desired more Pick Up location options. We have no intentions of eliminating any of our current Pick Up locations, but may be interested in increasing the total number of Pick Up locations.  Consequently, please let us know if you, or someone you know, might be interested in becoming a Pick Up location host.  A Pick Up location can be a home, church, office or store and should be able to provide some protection from the elements such as direct sun, rain, i.e. a covered porch, an open garage etc.  We will need a minimum number of sold shares to warrant a new location, but we will be open-minded and consider all suggestions. Some of the areas of interest to us may be adjacent to the following vicinities:

  • Westcott & Memorial
  • West University
  • Downtown & Midtown Houston
  • San Felipe & Chimney Rock area
  • Bellaire, Myerland area
  • Conroe
  • Humble

Not on this list? Let us know.

Delivery To Your Office or Company?

We will need about nine paid shares or more to economically justify a stop at your office, but we can help you "get the word out" by providing some of our CSA brochures to exhibit/hand-out at your place of work.  Please let us know if we can assist you in any way.

Fall Program

As mentioned a few weeks back, we are targeting our Fall CSA program to begin toward the end of September and wind up in early December. The share prices for the ten-week Fall program are the same as the current program, $220 for a partial share and $330 for a full share.  If you are interested, or know of someone that might be, please visit our website or contact me directly. We have updated our website harvest calendar. Click here to go to the "WDF Harvest Calendar. I have a provided a list of crops below that we anticipate planting for the Fall CSA program.
